Search Friendly

Google bought YouTube way back in 2006, and since then they have been slowly developing the video side of things, creating a really solid base for all things video marketing. Now, they are very overt about the fact that they value video content, and will rank it highly and favourably in search results. So if you’re looking to boost your online presence and SEO over 2019, video is an absolute must. And thanks to AI ( which can transcribe your audio into text and closed captions) and the recent announcement of a video preview carousel from Google, videos are becoming more searchable than ever.


Going Live In 3,2,1 

In the past, video has been very pre-planned, curated and staged. But over 2018 we’ve seen a rise in ‘live’ videos from brands, and we think that’s only going to increase in 2019. Since live streaming services have been brought into social media platforms, more and more businesses are embracing the ‘uncut’ nature of live streaming video. Not only have these been shown to retain viewers longer than pre-recorded videos, but they encourage more engagement from viewers as well, which is always good for brand growth. In fact, when asked, 80% would rather watch a live video from a brand than read a blog, and 82% prefer a live video than a social post. But the technology is still new, and so far the applications don’t reach all industries equally. Studies have shown that there are 5 main sectors that 360 video has proven popular in: sports and travel, live entertainment, movies, news and documentaries, and television shows.

Despite being universally hated in the past, especially by video professionals, vertical video is becoming all the range. This is partly because of platforms like Snapchat, which introduced ‘stories’ in 2013 that could only be filmed in vertical formats. Since then, the brands have been piling on with vertical video-enabled platforms, with Instagram, Facebook and Twitter all supporting vertical video. This is mainly because it’s more natural to view on mobile devices – since phones are vertical, and that’s the most comfortable way to view video. Take the guys at Wibbitz, who found that vertical videos got nearly for times more engagement than square videos on Facebook, and 2.5 more on Twitter.
